I've been rather neglectful of Bertie recently. Not in a bad way for him, but by lumbering Ranmore after his recent (in July!) C service. Still, with travels ahead, I had to get him home and saddled up.
Having not seen him for so long, I was quite excited. A bit like picking up a new car! Arriving at Ranmore first thing, Bertie was ready and looking great. A quick check reminded me I needed to fit the rebuilt radio (more on that next week), and the second hydraulic system was low on fluid!
I should have made a nuisance of myself, but thought Ranmore had suffered enough, so I topped up from the litre of RR363 I always keep in the boot (only available from FlyingSpares) and headed off.
By the following day it was clear I had a leak, but as it was Saturday I had to fight on. Over the weekend I used a full litre of RR363, and on Monday morning back at Ranmore the reservoir was empty (again). Something had to be done.
Problem was I had a 12:45pm shuttle booked back to Switzerland, and the car was now full of Christmas shopping. Russell, their chief mechanic wasted no time getting the car on a lift (ejecting some lesser automobile), and soon discovered the offside height control valve was leaking - badly.
As luck would have it they had a rebuilt one in stock, and within an hour it was fitted. In less than two hours I was in-and-out of Ranmore with a full reservoir and a spare litre of RR363 in the boot. Now that’s service.
